YWCA Clark County Responds to Alki Middle School Incident

Dear Clark County Community,

On October 5^th, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) was notified by Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) of a possible voyeurism incident involving an employee reportedly videotaping female students in the Alki Middle School locker room. Families with students attending the middle school have been notified and the incident is being investigated.Events like these can be challenging and triggering for many, especially vulnerable students in our public schools. YWCA Clark County is committed to supporting the immediate community at Alki Middle School and the broader community of concerned citizens, parents, and young people at this difficult time, especially those students and families directly impacted. We stand with our community and offer resources for Clark County.YWCA Clark County believes in empowering and supporting survivors. Voyeurism perpetrated against students is on a continuum of predatory behavior that we recognize and provide support for in our Sexual Assault Program offers an array of free, confidential services to people 13 and older to meet immediate and longer-term needs of victims and survivors in our county. We commit to inclusive and accessible programs for victim-survivors of diverse genders, cultures, backgrounds, experiences, and lifestyles.Our 24/7 crisis hotline (360-695-0501 or toll free: 800-695-0167) is a phone call away for anyone looking to process the situation at Alki Middle School, a trauma-response associated with this incident or other concerns. Our programs include advocates who can meet survivors at the hospital to be with them during medical forensic exams, support groups for adults and teens and non-judgmental support, information, and referrals at any time of life.In addition, we are glad to offer bystander training classes in February during Teen Dating Violence Awareness month and healthy relationship classes coming to local high and middle schools in January.
