When Shona Carter, a Vancouver-based philanthropy executive, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, she faced a critical roadblock.

As an African American woman, she knew she might not be able to find a life-saving bone marrow match and that the blood she needed might not always be plentiful. That’s because without a strong diverse donor base, patients from different ethnic and racial backgrounds aren’t always able to access compatible blood and bone marrow donations so critical to recovery.

We believe everyone deserves an equal shot at a healthy life. Join us at the #ShonaStrong Blood Drives to help support and raise awareness for Shona’s cause. In addition to giving blood, you’ll also have the opportunity to sign up for the Be The Match National Marrow Donor Registry.
