Youth Social Justice Award

YWCA Clark County is excited to announce Michelle Prothero as the 2008 Youth Social Justice Award honoree.

Michelle is 18 years old and a senior at Mountain View High School. She is Vice President of the ASL (American Sign Language) Club at Mountain View. As part of her work with the club, she has collected over 200 books for students at the Washington School for the Deaf.

Michelle is the treasurer of Livin’ Large, a club for girls in high school who want to become more comfortable with themselves. Michelle has also helped plan parties for the special education class at Mountain View.

She would like to thank her family (brothers Mikel and Brady, sisters Savannah and Jennifer, dad Chris, and stepmom Peggy) for all of their support. She would also like to thank Nykke Straws (Multicultural Youth Coordinator at Mountain View), Yvonne Nicolay (ASL teacher), and Gateway Community Church for their help.

The award will be presented alongside the Val Joshua Racial Justice Award at the YWCA Annual Celebration on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 5:30 pm at the YWCA.
